WELCOME TO THE PLOUGH @ LEWSON STREET

If you want a restaurant in Kent, the doors to The Plough Inn are always open to all wishing to enjoy a home cooked meal or taste our real ales. We are located in Faversham, in a 13th century ale house in the heart of Kent countryside.

As a historic pub, we believe we house the perfect place to relax in the afternoon or evening and enjoy some nice food, good ale and a chat. We are traditionally decorated with original oak beams, an inglenook fireplace and a rich history.

Pub History

The main area of the pub was built as a cow byre around 1260 ad. At some point later it was converted into a blacksmith's shop, we assume this was when the inglenook fireplace was added.

On 5th June 1755 it was inherited by Mr Sam Shepherd from a Mr William Bafs. In 1844 the title deed of the Plough Land and premises at Lewson Street was transferred to Mr Henry Shepherd Esq. On the 4th July 1862 there was a reconveyance of messuage and premises called the Plough situated at Lewson Street Teynham Kent from Henry Shepherd son & squire to Messrs. Shepherd & Neames.

On 9th November 1928 the Quit rent,Relief,Stewards Compensation and all other Manorial charges and Services were redeemed by Shepherd Neame from Mary Vivian Mrs Roper-Lumley-Holland for the sum of Thirteen Shillings andSixpence.
